Nov. 11 (Bloomberg) -- A 10-year-old British Columbia student is leading a campaign to boycott Canadian outlets of McDonald's Corp., the world's No. 1 restaurant chain, to protest the U.S.'s refusal to return softwood-lumber duties to Canada.
Titled ``Yo Yo Yo Give us our dough; no Mc-D on December 3,'' the campaign targets McDonald's because it's ``the most famous U.S. company in the world,'' according to the Web site of Luke McAndless-Davis in Westminster, British Columbia. He said he learned about the trade dispute in school.
The boycott, supported by Canada's second-biggest union, is aimed at getting the attention of U.S. President George W. Bush, McAndless-Davis said. Canada's government has demanded the U.S. return more than C$5 billion ($4.2 billion) in duties collected from Canadian lumber companies, which the U.S. has called unfairly subsidized. The U.S. has so far refused. |
