Israeli shipping company endorses UAE's DP World

Many people have been skeptical about the Dubai ports deal because of the UAE's anti-Israel tendencies. While it certainly not a feather in their hat, I don't think it's necesarily a reason to kill the deal. For one, we do business with people we don't like or who support things we don't approve of. Look at our trade gap with communist China, our allegencies in the GWOT with Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Sudan, or our alliance with Russia during WWII against Hitler. Well now we've got another reason not to mind the deal thanks to the Counterterrorism blog.

The chairman of Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd., the largest Israeli shipping firm, wrote on February 22 to Sen. Hillary Clinton (Acrobat file from CNN website) to strongly endorse the purchase of U.S. port operations by Dubai Port World. The chairman cited both the sound security and business efficiency of DPW operations. "As an Israeli company, security is of the utmost importance to us...and we are very comfortable calling at DP World's Dubai ports. During our long association with DP World, we have not experienced a single security issue in these ports or in any of the terminals operated by DP World and have received exemplary service that enhances our efficiency and the smooth running of our operations."

If Israel doesn't mind working with UAE and DPW, why should we?

UPDATE: Iowahawk updates us on a much more important threat to our national security... Bush inked a deal to allow an Irish firm control of our national whickey reserve!

Washington DC - The Bush Administration today angrily defended its controversial approval of the Irish company Donnybrook Lads Ltd. to oversee security at the National Strategic Whiskey Reserve in Lynchburg, TN, vowing to veto a new House bill that would force the two-man firm to undergo federal breathalizer testing.

"During the rigorous 7 minute review process, both Seamus and Kevin gave us an express oral promise that they never touch the stuff," said White House Spokesman Scott McClelland. "Well, maybe just a wee nip at wakes, and on All Saints Day."

Our whickey stocks have quickly approached a crisis level since they took over! Something must be done! We don't want any American drunks (or golfers) resorting to drinking damn imperialist British gin or commie Russian vodka! We'd better call Ted Kennedy...
