Top Zarqawi aide captured in Iraq

Captured by Iraqi forces, for one (good job guys). Second, this al Qaeda operative was also a senior intelligence official for Saddam.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi forces have captured the prime suspect in the kidnapping of Italian journalist Guiliana Sgrena, the U.S. military said on Thursday

The statement said Muhammad al-Ubaydi, a former senior intelligence official under Saddam Hussein with close ties to the al-Qaeda leader in Iraq Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, was arrested on March 7.

[...] The military said Ubaydi was the former aide to the Chief of Staff of intelligence under Saddam and now heads a group it identified as the Secret Islamic Army in northern Babel province.

This is the kind of news story that people who defend the GWOT and, specifically, the war in Iraq, need to have at their fingers tips when challenged... "Where were the WMDs? There's no connection between Iraq and al Qaeda."

Need more connections between Saddam's regime and al Qaeda? See my previous post here.
