Dutch agree to send troops to Afghanistan

... as was hoped the other day when Australia committed more troops. They were inteded to be a joint effort with the Dutch. Dutch troops will begin deploying on March 1.

The Dutch parliament overwhelmingly supported the deployment of up to 1,400 troops to southern Afghanistan, the premier said, reaffirming the country's central NATO.

No vote was held specifically to send the troops, but Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende said at the end of a late night debate yesterday that it was clear the deployment had widespread support.

Thanks for the vote of confidence guys. Welcome to the GWOT. I know you're only there for the reconstruction, but it's not going to be a cake walk. Remember guys you've got guns... use 'em if you need 'em.
