AMMAN, March 20 (Reuters) - Jordan has closed its border with Iraq to prevent the entry of Palestinians fleeing persecution and sectarian violence in its eastern neighbour, witnesses said on Monday.
They said Jordanian authorities, fearful of a large influx from among the 34,000 Palestinian refugees estimated to be living in Iraq, closed the border on Sunday after a busload of Palestinians arrived. |
Apparently, these Palestinians emmigrated to Iraq after Israel was created in 1948, and the "persecution" they fear is being caught in anti-insurgent military sweeps. If they haven't done anything, I don't think they have anything to fear, but who knows... |
