Iran enriches their own uranium for the first time

Ahmadinejad said yesterday that he was going to have good news about their nuclear prospects today... of course we were all hoping that it was that he had blown himself up during a reactor test or something...

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran has successfully enriched uranium for the first time, a major development in its quest to develop nuclear fuel, former President Hashemi Rafsanjani said Tuesday.

Current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad added that the country "will soon join the club of countries with nuclear technology."

The U.N. Security Council has demanded that Iran stop all uranium enrichment activity by April 28. Iran has rejected the demand, saying it has a right to develop the process.

Makes you wonder about those rumors about our plans to nuke Iran to prevent them from acquiring nuclear weapons, though... Nuclear weapons are totally unnecessary here, but if they've got plans for that, hopefully that means they've got simpler plans to take out Iran's reactors with less collateral damage.
